Today I shall be mainly spending my time right here in sunny Stanwick.
A glass of something cold and fizzy and some BBQ meats with salad. Days like this are far and few between. Make the most of it folks.
The ramblings of a wandering toilet brush salesman with a liking for good food, wine, beer & rugby. Not always in that order.

The Difference a Day makes at Sani Beach
At long last the Grecian sun has dared to put in an appearance. And what an entrance, from 6am until 8pm not a cloud in the sky. Just check out this photo to the one I posted a couple of days ago from the beach bar.

Mrs CT is on her second mojito of the afternoon.

There will be some very red people at breakfast tomorrow including Mrs CT and myself
Strange goings on this morning in the pool.

At least this lot had the decency not to bring their gear to breakfast unlike those pesky tennis type people. One more mention of "yah the subtlety of my drop shot was so good" and I will not be held responsible for my actions or mouth.
Do you remember Polish Patricia from last year? My early evening beer seller. Well this year I have Karen from, would you believe Scotland!

I can understand all the girls from Czech, Russia, Ukraine, Poland etc wanting to get away for the summer and work somewhere nice and hot. Come to think of it, not a bad decision Karen.
Due out earlier tonight as we have managed to get another booking at the Italian to replace the washout from earlier in the week.

Cretian Times Day 14
Our last full day in the sun. Having said that there is a bit of cloud this morning giving some welcome shade at times. What is also apparent is that half of the hotel went home yesterday taking all their little darlings of school age with them. (Before anyone questions as to why we are taking our holiday during term time I should explain that we have to be back in the UK this week for the wedding of our good friends Ju & Sean).
Went for a walk up into the nearby village where I spotted this latest in family transport, a Cutivator 1.1d Convertible. Nice!

Fruit in various forms also on show.

The last one is pomegranate for those that cannot spot the fruit.
19:00 - left Mrs CT in the room to finish off the packing. I find it best to keep out of the way during this mystical process. So naturally I am where I have been for the past 14 evenings at this time.

One of the best extra features that you get from our hotel is that the airport check-in comes to you! Each morning a team arrives from the airport with weighing scales and boarding cards and checks you in to your flight. Bags are then whisked away, the next time to be seen at Stansted. Absolutely no queuing at the small shed known as Heraklion airport. Game on!

As it is my last night I am allowing myself a small treat - paprika crisps - the first contraband in nearly 2 months (see comments re Dukan diet from a couple of days ago).
Now there's just one small hurdle to overcome in the next 24 hours. Will I be allowed down the local to watch the England game 30 minutes after getting home? What do you reckon? Don't all shout at me at once!
Time for another I feel

Cretian Times Day 11
Remember when you were young, painting multiple colours on a piece of paper and then covering the whole lot with a black wax crayon. You could then scratch off the wax to create a picture revealing the colours underneath? Kids of today I think use "magic pens". Well something similar has arrived for the iPhone - Colorsplash. You take one of your photographs which the program turns black & white. You can then remove some of this grey covering to reveal just the coloured parts you want to. This gives focus to the subject matter such as this picture which I am calling mmmmm beer!

Some other examples of our holiday

What a great little program. (available from the App store as usual).
Some nice sand art on the beach this morning

This is Mrs CT's effort. How touching!

Did you manage to find the nice pair of melons in yesterdays photo? No? Well here they are

Cretian Times Day 9
At what point in his life does a man think "I bet if I wore a pair of small swimming trunks from Speedo, I will look really cool"? Middle aged and older men seem to have a fascination with this that surely has to come with a slow down in the cerebral cortex. This affliction is even more so prevalent in the males from mainland Europe. Walking past several of the large Germanic hotels this morning, Mrs CT was prone to numerous bouts of the giggles. Guys - once you get to an age and body shape that needs some decency, put the thongs away - please.
This is my T-shirt for the day.

I do have another one with a large male chicken on it. You can work out the motto for yourselves!
The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain. Here in Crete it falls in our pool.

Don't worry it was just a passing shower and we were inside getting changed for the evening. Nice rainbows.
I think the seats at Pat's bar could be a bit soggy.

Cretian Times Day 7
30/08/2010
The nice sea breeze we have had for the past few days has gone. Very humid and hot.

Stroll along the beach early this morning resulted in major fluid loss and a state of overheat. Spent 20 mins standing in pool to recover.
It would appear that a quarter of the hotel went through a changeover yesterday. Mrs CT quite pleased as there are now people who are whiter than her.

The downside is that the 3 apartments at the end of the little cul-de-sac branch of our pool are now occupied by couples that have spent the last 5 or so years breeding. There are so many children in the water that it has taken on the appearance of the River Ganges during a festival.
Just finished reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. What an excellent book. Must try and get hold of the next one asap.

Well it's time for my quiet time and the best drink of the day, see below. We are eating at the Aroma Stone tonight. Apparently they give you a hot rock, some meat and you have to do the cooking - lazy buggers!

Cretian Times Day 1
24-08-2010
Usual silly o'clock flight causing the alarm to rudely shrill at 03:00am.
Bags all packed and off we go.
Stansted at 6am an uneasy mixing of suits waiting for their day flights to somewhere not too far away and the holiday makers enjoying their first beer of the fortnight.

Onto the aircraft, which has seen better days, for a bum numbing 4 hours of children crying and loud chavs. Thankfully as this is a premium day flight, the latter are in short attendance.

Breakfast eaten and now settling down to a couple of hours of "How to Train your Dragon". Any hope of it being a quirky wildlife feature is quickly squashed by the squeaks of delight coming from our younger co-passengers.

Roll on Crete and the sanctuary of our private terrace, sunbeds and sleep...........
